04Build Steps

  1. Cut the parts. Cut the steps, risers, legs and braces. Cut the legs at 8 degrees top and bottom so they splay slightly.
  2. Build the sides. Screw the legs to the risers to form two matching side frames, keeping them square.
  3. Join the sides. Attach the steps across the two frames, then add the cross braces front and back.
  4. Reinforce. Add a block under each step joint and check that all four legs sit flat on the floor.
  5. Finish. Sand edges and apply a non-slip paint or clear finish.

Safety First

  • Test the stool with your full weight on the top step before daily use.
  • Keep all four feet flat — a rocking stool is a fall hazard.

05Pro Tips

  • Add a non-slip strip to the top edge for safety.
  • Splay the legs about 8 degrees for stability without extra bracing.
